12590 - .008 x 36” Brass Flat Wire Inlay
Our flat wire ribbon inlay has been updated to a more correct width according to standards of application by some of today’s master craftsmen. According to original rifle restorations, wire inlay was never installed very deep into the surface of the wood. The challenge today is to install it in such a manner as to prevent its backing out when the wood shrinks in the normal aging process. It is really not hard to do, but takes practice and good technique. The Art of Building the Pennsylvania Longrifle has a good section on installation. Our flat wire comes in 36” lengths in brass and German Silver .005, .008 and .014 thick. Sterling silver comes in .010 thickness, only in 36” length as well. Annealing or heating is not necessary. Be careful. The edges are extremely sharp!

This stuff seems to last forever! If you forget and leave the lid off, don’t worry, its better-that’s why it lasts. Just barely put any on whatever part is to be inlet and the color transfers easily to the high places in the wood. It’s no rocket science! And this takes all the guess work out of the project. Use a Q-tip or fine swab to apply and do so sparingly. 1/2 ounce bottle goes a long way!

We offer the drill bit sizes commonly used in building muzzleloaders. These are surface treated jobber length bits that should give good service. They all have a shank that is the same size as the bit. A tap & drill chart is on the next page.
