This rifle was created as an instrument of trade between the Indian population and the Eastern coast of the United States. It was developed as a typically light, often small and easy to handle working gun. Generally designed for both shot or patched ball, its trademark was the sea serpent or dragon sideplate. Guides were ribbed and traders and Indians alike commonly ornamented their longrifle with brass tacks. Early first models had iron plates nailed to the butt which later developed into brass plates attached with screws. Triggerguards were large and forestocks generally heavy. It features the extended wrist down low into the buttstock and squared comb common to the style as it was on the originals. This pre-shaped stock comes with a 5/8” or 3/4" straight round barrel groove and rod channel with drilled ramrod hole; and is not inlet for lock, triggers or cut for buttplate. Inletting options below for lock, triggers and octagon to round barrel. Specify barrel and rod size when ordering. Maximum barrel length is 42”. Available as left or right, but see lock section for lock availability for left hand models.
